2004 STREET LEAGUE HURLING FINALS

Over 150 boys and girls, between the ages of five and ten took part in the Street League Finals in Manning Park on the October Bank Holiday Monday. Over the previous four Sunday mornings, the kids were taught the skills of the game by the coaches who volunteered to help out. There was a big emphasis on having fun, participation and learning the skills in a positive environment, which will help secure the future of our great club. There was a very professional set up this year with Billy Cotter and Thomas Lester co-ordinating the whole set up.

There were 10 senior coaches with 15 assistant coaches (made up of past and present players) in charge of 16 teams. The Juvenile committee held a very successful Table Quiz to fund the purchase of equipment such as hurleys, helmets, sliothars, bibs and bollards. Thanks to everyone who supported this event. When the matches were finished Mrs Nora Cotter, the wife of the late Club President Billy Cotter (a legend who served his beloved club all his life) presented the trophies and medals to all the kids who participated. After the presentations there was a bumper party in the clubhouse with Cork Hurling Legend Brian Corcoran and Camogie Junior All Ireland winner Amanda O'Regan guests of honour.

The Liam Mc Carthy Cup was paraded in front of the big crowd present. Thanks to Brian and Amanda for coming down and making the kids day. Finally thanks to Billy and Thomas for the excellent job they did in organising the finals, the social co-ordinators Mickey O'Mahony, Pat Walsh and Michelle O Connor, the equipment co-ordinators Thomas Harrington, Liz Farr and John Hanlon, all the coaches, parents, supporters and finally all the kids whose behaviour was excellent throughout.
