PASSAGE GAA CLUB LAUNCHES 120 YEAR HISTORY

 

 

Long time club member, administrator and former player, Matt Aherne has written an absorbing and enthralling history of his beloved Passage West GAA Club, one of the oldest affiliated clubs in the country. One year after the foundation of the GAA in Thurles in 1884, the club was founded in the home of first chairman, Ned Cadogan, coincidentally great grandfather of the author. With the assistance of some other dedicated club members, Matt has written the first 120 year history of any GAA club and the beautifully produced and finely illustrated, full colour hardback book is a testament to the many hours of toil and research which must have gone into a publication which will compare favourably with any GAA publication produced to date.

 

There are most interesting records of events which occurred in the last quarter of the 19^th Century. There is an account of a local derby between Passage and neighbouring Monkstown played in 1876, eight years before the foundation of the GAA and nine years before the formation of the Passage GAA Club while there is a graphic report of the background to a famous county championship game played between Redmonds and Blackrock in Passage in 1896. This game attracted 15,000 spectators who came by train, wagonette and on foot and, such was the concern of the authorities that “a riot or tumult” would occur, that a bench order was obtained “solemnly admonishing all keepers of inns and public houses in Passage West, Monkstown, Rochestown and Carrigaline to close their doors from 10am to 10 pm” on the day in question. There is an intriguing profile of the town of Passage in 1885 when its importance can be measured by the fact that it boasted two hotels, five lodging houses, three churches, four schools, two bakers and eighteen public houses while the local dockyard provided employment for up to 300 people. In the early part of the year the town played host to one of Irish history’s most colourful personalities, Charles Stewart Parnell while, later that year, in the presence of 1600 guests in the dockyard, the Prince and Princess of Wales performed a keel laying ceremony for a new ship commissioned by the British government.

 

On the playing front, the Passage club contested the first ever Cork county senior hurling championship which was held in 1887. Although they remained unbeaten on the field of play, Passage are not recorded as county champions. The background is that a dispute occurred between semi-finalists Cork National and St. Finbarrs as Passage awaited the winners in the final. The upshot of a prolonged debate was that the title was awarded to Cork Nationals in 1888. Passage annexed their first county title in 1906 when their second team went on to win the seconds’ championship (now featured in the Cork County Board records as the junior county championship), defeating Redmonds in the final.

 

An amusing but insightful story into the relationship of GAA clubs and the police authorities (Royal Irish Constabulary) in the early days of the GAA is told in reference to a senior county championship match which Passage played against Castletownroche in Lisgoold on a Sunday in June 1900. To fulfil the fixture, the Passage team, accompanied by a group of supporters and led by a Fife and Drum Band, crossed the River Lee to Carrigaloe by rowing boat. From there they travelled in three wagonettes to Lisgoold. Having won the game and partaken of some refreshments in a local public house, the party set out for home. When they reached Carrigtwohill, a decision was made to stop for more refreshments. During the celebrations, a Passage player was arrested by the R.I.C. for singing seditious songs and he was quickly removed to the Carrigtwohill barracks. The situation worsened when the players and supporters went to the barracks and demanded the return of their player. The R.I.C. Sergeant refused the request and, after a discussion among the Passage contingent, it was decided to attack the barracks. The door was broken down and the crowd stormed in, “fighting forward with hurleys,” until they rescued their player. They re-formed in the street and, led by the band playing “The Peeler and the Goat”, they marched the mile out of Carrigtwohill and mounted the wagonettes to resume the homeward journey. However, the RIC were not quite finished with the Passage GAA Club. On the following Monday, a force led by the District Inspector, entered the town of Passage and searched the dockyard in an attempt to identify anyone involved in the previous night’s fracas. They had no success. Naturally, anyone involved in Carrigtwohill had made himself scarce and, at every meal hour for the duration of the week, the R.I.C. were on duty at the dock gates, some of them sporting black eyes. Anyone familiar with the working conditions of a dockyard appreciates the difficulty in identifying a man, seen in his Sunday best, as opposed to his work overalls, covered from head to foot in a mixture of coal dust, grease and rust. Having spent a week in Passage, the R.I.C. recognised the futility of their efforts and returned to base empty handed, much to the glee of the Passage team and followers.

 

The Passage club is typical of many hundreds of clubs up and down the country. Despite a number of forays into senior ranks in both hurling and football and winning many divisional titles at junior level, county titles proved most elusive. However, in addition to the junior hurling title of 1906, the club won intermediate hurling titles in 1924, 1930 and 1960, the junior football title in 1982 and the intermediate football title in 1983. Following the intermediate hurling success of 1960, Passage campaigned in senior ranks for the following fourteen years during which time they acquitted themselves admirably, losing out in the semi-final in 1966 to eventual winners, Avondhu. Likewise, the footballers were defeated in the semi-final of the 1984 senior county championship by star studded St. Finbarrs. However, these statistics hide the great contribution which the club has made to the wellbeing of the youth of the Passage parish over the past 120 years and the great senior inter county players produced, players such as Justin McCarthy, Eddie O’Brien, John Barry, Joe Murphy and John Horgan (the latter went on to spend most of his career with Blackrock). Passage also developed some fine under age players over the years and this aspect of the club’s activities received tangible recognition in 1968 when the Cork minor hurling team featured four players who had come up through the club’s under age ranks.

 

This fine book recounts many exciting hurling and football games in which Passage have participated at different levels over the past 120 years and it profiles some of the club’s key players and administrators. It charts the acquisition and development of the excellent playing facilities and amenities at Manning Park and it illustrates the vision and commitment of dedicated committee members in trying times in the 1950s as they strove to secure a permanent home for the club. There is an absorbing social commentary on the various periods covered in the book and the large collection of black and white and colour photographs is sure to arouse tremendous interest among readers. “120 Years of GAA in Passage” is a wonderful read which will appeal, not alone to natives of Passage and club members, but to the much wider GAA community.

 

The official book launch took place in the Passage GAA clubhouse on Wednesday, 2 August and was performed by Con Murphy, former President of the GAA in the presence of current President, Nickey Brennan.

JUNIOR HURLING TEAMS RECORD IMPRESSIVE VICTORIES

 

Junior A Hurling League

Passage 0-10 Bishopstown 1-5

 

The Junior A Hurlers continued on their winning ways with a hard fought victory over Bishopstown in a very competitive league game in Manning Park. Cotters army overcame a crippling injury list to play some great hurling against one of this years Championship favourites. The Passage defence were outstanding throughout and laid the foundations for the victory. Best for Passage on the night were Niall Harrington, Dave O’Sullivan who had one of his best games in the White jersey, James Barrett, Ciaran Dunne and Ozzie.

Junior B Hurling League

Passage 1-10 Na Piarsaigh 2-6

 

Despite the shock of hearing that Legend Seamus”Skippy” O’Callaghan had announced his retirement the Killer B’s had a great win over Na Piarsaigh in a very close and exciting league game last Monday night in Manning Park. Passage started well with Robbie Coughlan opening the scoring from a 65 after 3 minutes. Passage were well on top but let Na Piarsaigh off the hook by wasting several easy scoring chances. Piarsaigh weathered the storm and scored a very soft goal after 10 minutes. The Northside team then started to dominate proceedings scoring 4 points without reply to give them a 6-point lead approaching half time. In the closing minute the youngest player on the pitch Johnny O’Byrne and comeback kid Stephen Walsh scored a point each to leave 4 points between the sides at the half time whistle. The second half belonged to Super Granddad Willie Ashman who reminded all the young pretenders that he still is the man by scoring 1-6. Straight from the throw in Ashy scored a long-range point to leave only a goal between the sides. Just like the first half Piarsaigh scored another goal after Passage had fired several scoring chances wide. Inspired by Ashy Passage refused to lie down and they slowly crept back into the game. Ashy scored 1-2 from frees and another from play to level the match with 10 minutes left on the clock. The sides then swapped points Ashy getting the Passage score from another well taken free. Hugh O’Neill then fired over what looked like the match winning point but Piarsaigh fought back and were soon level. The man of the moment then fired over the winning point right on the stroke of full time much to the delight of everyone present. The question now is would Passage have beaten Ballinure in the Championship if Ashy was playing this performance answers the question. At an age when some men would be fishing and golfing happily enjoying their retirement Willie continues to be one of the best players in the League Ashy we salute you.

Passage had an easy win over West Cork side Ballinscarthy last week that gives them a chance of finishing in the top two in the league. To achieve this the girls must beat neighbours Carrigaline in their last game. Passage found themselves 2 points down at the interval after playing against a very strong wind. The girls upped the tempo in the second half and ran out convincing winners in the end. Natasha O’Sullivan was the star of the show for Passage scoring 4-1. Kate Boland and Muireann Doyle completed the scoring with a goal apiece. Others to play well were Gemma Cooney, Erin Twomey, Shauna Jordan and Gillian Foley.

Passage warmed up for the Feile with a very convincing win over Togher side St.Finbarrs. The Barrs had no answer to the breathtaking hurling Passage produced on the night. Best for Passage on the night were Ross Delea who gave a man of the match performance scoring 3 goals, Chris O’Byrne who seemed to score with every touch he got, Pat Walsh the man with the cool “David Beckham” haircut, Corey Higgins captain fantastic and Stephen Bunny.

Passage missing several players who were on holidays suffered their first defeat of the season in the league to Blackrock in Church Road last week. Passage started well and led by 2 points at the interval the half time score was Passage 1-5 Blackrock 2-0. It was the Rockies ability to score goals that gave them the advantage in the second half and they won by 3 points in the end. Players to play well for Passage on the night were Niall O’Connor, Daniel Santry, Rory O’Flynn and Shane Burke.

Passage bounced back in style from their defeat against Blackrock to record a great victory over St.Vincents last Monday night. Sean Keogh scored the fastest goal in history (the Guinness Book of Records will have to be contacted) straight from the throw in. Team manager Eddie Aherne reckons the ball hit the back of the net inside 5 seconds. With Vincents still in shock Passage piled on the pressure and they led by 7 points at the break. The half time score was Passage 2-2 Vincents 0-1. Passage were well on top in the second half and out scored their opponents by 3 points to two to leave 8 points between the sides at the final whistle. Players to play well were Rory O’Reilly, Gary Tett, Ross Mc Cauliffe, Niall O’Connor, Rory O’Hanlon and record breaker Sean Keogh.

St. Peters Community School lost 2 finals recently in Camogie and

Congratulations to Lisa O'Sullivan who has been selected to play for the
U-16 Seandun Camogie team.

Ladies Football
Sinead O'Reilly, Kate Boland and Gemma Cooney have been training hard
with the Cork U-14 Ladies Football team over the last 2 months. The
final trial will be held this week and hopefully the girls will make it
on to the final panel.

 YEAR IN REVIEW 2005

JUNIOR A HURLING
At the start of the year Billy Cotter who had transformed the Junior B
Hurlers over the last couple of years was appointed the new manager of the
Junior A Hurling team. Billy drafted in Kieran Harrington,Russell Quigley
and Willie O'Callaghan as his selectors. The lads got off to a great start
with a great win against St.Finbarrs who were the 2004 City Championship
winners. Further victories over Brian Dillons, Bishopstown, Douglas and Glen
Rovers was not however enough to qualify for the semi finals of the
competition. The Championship was a bit of a rollercoaster as the lads
qualified for the semi final. They drew with and then lost to Bishopstown in
the first round before defeating Rathpeacon and Vincents to set up a meeting
with Mayfield. What happened next is still a mystery as Passage failed to
perform on the night which was a shame as this team was capable of a lot
more. The players were hurt and the lads know that there is unfinished
business next season. In the Mac Curtain Cup Passage defeated the Glen
Rovers before losing the quarter final to Bishopstown.

 

JUNIOR B HURLING

With last years manager Billy Cotter stepping up to the A team Kieran Keane
came in and did a wonderful job leading the lads to their first final in
since 1991. To reach the League Final Passage defeated Shandon Rovers,
Douglas (twice) and Brian Dillons as well as drawing with Shandon Rovers,
Lough Rovers and Dillons. These results meant that the lads finished in the
top four and were drawn against Na Piarsaigh in the semi final . Piarsaigh
were the only team to take full points of the B Team all season and were
favourites to advance to the final. On a cold October morning Piarsaigh
didn't know what hit them as Passage gave a tremendous display of hurling to
qualify for the final against old rivals Lough Rovers. Unfortunately Passage
couldn't defeat the Lough who showed what a great team they are by
completing the Championship/League double. In the Championship Passage
defeated Redmonds in the first round before losing to eventual winners Lough
Rovers by a single point in the quarter final. In the Craogh Rua Passage
were beaten by Shandon Rovers at the quarter final stage. Next season the
Killer B's will play their hurling in the Junior IA League and it should be
a great year.

 

JUNIOR A FOOTBALL

One of the biggest disappointments of the year was the poor performances of
the Junior A Footballers. Much was expected of this team after a tremendous
championship run in 2004 but unfortunately the lads failed to build on this
success. Everyone involved knows what went wrong and already the lads are
back in training to get back up to the high standards that the Club demands.
Passage had a dismal League campaign losing all their games bar a draw
against St.Michaels. These results mean that the team will be playing in the
B League next season. In the Championship Passage lost to Whites Cross in
the first round and were knocked out by Rathpeacon after a replay in the
next round.

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL

The Junior B Footballers despite having the youngest panel in the history of
the club held their own in a very competitive B League. New manager Greg
Murphy blooded young players such as Terry Howard, Willie Ashman,Eugene and
John Murphy,Neil Dorgan, Gabby O'Connell, Paul Maxwell and Ciaran O'Reilly
during the campaign. Murphy's babes had great victories over Brian Dillons,
St.Nick's, Delaneys and drew with Ballinure. In the Championship Passage
defeated Na.Piarsaigh after a replay in the first round before losing to
Whites Cross in the next round.

U-21 FOOTBALL/HURLING
Passage lost to Whites Cross in the first round and didn't enter a team for
the Hurling.

MINOR HURLING

Congratulations to our Minor Hurling team (Ashy's Army) for winning the City
Hurling Championship in the summer which made up for last years narrow
defeat. Delaneys, the Barrs and Bishopstown in the final were all defeated
in a great Championship run. The lads first defeat all year in the City
Division was against Blackrock in the League Final. In the Non Exam League
Passage defeated every team they faced before losing the final to West Cork
side Barryroe. Having won the City Championship Passage represented the City
Division in the County Championships. They were defeated by Newscestown in
the first round despite giving an excellent performance.

MINOR FOOTBALL
This team won the League and Championship double in the City Division losing
no games all season which is some record. In the Championship they defeated
Nemo Rangers in the semi final before hammering delaneys in the Final. Nemo
Rangers were defeated to clinch the League trophy in November. Like the
Hurlers every game was won in the Non Exam League before losing the final to
Clara/Millstreet. In the County Championship Passage lost to Carrignavar in
the first round and Killnamathra beat the lads in the quarter final of the
County League. Congratulations and thanks for a great year to everyone
involved with this super team.

Camogie
What a year for the Camogie Club by far the most successful in it's short
history. The U-14 Team reached the County Final where they were very unlucky
to lose to Killeagh. The U-16 Team reached the quarter finals of both the
League and Championship. The U-11,U-12 and U-15 teams all did very well in
their competitions. The U-13 team are still playing at the moment and only
need to win one of their two remaining games to qualify for the league
final. The club has come a long way since it was reformed five years ago and
surely the trophies will start to arrive in 2006.

LADIES FOOTBALL
The girls got to the Finals of the U-13 and U-14 Leagues despite the fact
they had only 3 months to prepare. They narrowly lost both finals and
Manager Ciaran O'Reilly is confident of a bright future for these teams.
Ciaran's daughter represented the Cork Sciath Na Scoil team that played
Kerry on Munster Final Day. Five players represented Muskerry in a
Divisional Tournament during the Summer.

JUVENILE SECTION
It has been another very successful year for the Juvenile club with a number
of trophies been won. The U-11 Footballers won the John Kerins Memorial
Trophy in May winning all their games. The U-13 Footballers won the City
League and narrowly lost the Championship Final to Ballinure. The U-16
Footballers won the City Championship and are currently waiting to play the
League Final. The U-12 Footballers played A Football in the South East
League and lost the B City Championship to Na.Piarsaigh. The U-12 Hurlers
also played A Hurling in the South East and were beaten in the semi final
of the City Championship. The U-15 Footballers played A City Championship
and League losing to Bishopstown in the Championship after extra time and to
Nemo in the semi final of the League by a point. The U-15 Hurlers lost to
Douglas in the Championship and failed to qualify for the knockout stages of
the League. The Club also participated in U-8 Hurling and Football and were
unbeaten in 6 matches.

 

Street Leagues
The club ran a very successful Hurling Street League with 140 kids
participating. Due to terrible weather conditions the Football League
couldn't take place and will be held next April.

 

 

Summer Camp
Over 110 kids took part in the clubs first summer camp in July.Cork Hurler
Tom Kenny and Footballer Conor Mc Carthy did the coaching and everyone
enjoyed the week.Also UCC and CIT did coaching for the U-11 and U-13 squads
for 4 weeks under Darragh Mc Sweeney.

CLUBPERSON OF THE YEAR
Ned Harrington was the clubperson of the year for 2005. Ned has done trojan
work over the past couple of years as groundsman for the club. Thanks Ned
for all your effort and hard work.

GROUND DEVELOPMENT
Under the guidance of Ned and his righthand man John Phair the Juvenile
Pitch was re-developed during the past summer. Netting has been erected on
the boreen end of the pitch and also on the top end of the main pitch. Chain
link wiring has been replaced around the main pitch, the road surface from
the main entrance to the Club House has been tarmaced. New lighting is
currently been erected on the Juvenile Pitch and the meeting room is been
renovated. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out during the year doing
various jobs. Thanks also to St.Peters for the use of their School Pitch.

 

Social
There was many memorable social events held during the year. The Christmas
Swim, Barbecue Day, Dinner Dance, Street League Party, Race Night, Golf
Classic and various table quiz nights were just a few of the great events
held. Thanks to everyone who helped out it is greatly appreciated by the
club.

Clubhouse
The Clubhouse has operated very well during the year and continues to be a
very important social centre for the club's members. Thanks to Bar Manager
Johnny Collins and his staff for their very professional approach to their
work, Dave Maxwell for helping out in the everyday running of the club and

MINOR FOOTBALLER’S COMPLETE HISTORIC DOUBLE

Minor Football City Championship Final

Passage 3-10 Delaney’s 2-0

On Sunday October 16^th the Passage minor footballer’s completed an historic double by winning both the Hurling and Football City Championships this season. Played in appalling conditions in the Lough’s pitch Passage totally outclassed their northside opponents. Passage played some thrilling football in the first half and led by 8 points at the break the half time score was Passage 2-5 Delaney’s 1-0. The second half was a lot more physical and the exchanges were fierce. Passage added on another 1-5 to their first half score to give them a convincing victory, which will set them up nicely for a crack at the County. Daniel”Podge”O’Leary was the man of the match scoring 2-5, Captain Gary Mc Carthy had a great game and fired over 3 free’s, David O’Connell scored a great goal in the closing minute, James Kind and Eric Burke scored a point each to finish the scoring. Others to play well were Liam O’Sullivan, Gavin O’Flaherty and Thomas Mullane.

Junior B Hurlers defeated in the League Final

PASSAGE 1-10                Lough Rovers 2-13

On Saturday last Passsage Junior B hurlers contested the JBHL final against their old rivals Lough Rovers at Redmonds Pitch.The Lough who narrowly defeated Passage by 1 point in the championship were going for the double have won the championship for the second year in a row. Playing with the wind in the first half Passage led by 3 points at half time. However scores were at a premium and Passage paid the price for not having converted more of their chances in the first half. Passage were relying heavily on veterans Tomas Harrington and Willie Ashman for scores and as the game wore on the Lough got stronger as Passage tired. A goal from Eddie Byrne for the Lough with ten minutes remaining was to put the lough ahead for the first time and Passage had no answer to this. The Lough added a further 3 points to win by 6 in the end. Passage to be fair battled to the end and had good performances from Dave Whitty and Paul Holly.

GREAT WEEKEND FOR PASSAGE TEAMS

 

U-16 City Championship Football Final

Passage 0-10 St.Vincents 0-4

 

Last Saturday afternoon in Bishopstown Passage won the U-16 Football Championship for the second year in a row. The lads defeated a very good St.Vincents side to bring another piece of silverware back to the harbour town. Last years victory was in the C grade this year the victory was in the B grade, which shows how well the club, is progressing. Despite the appalling weather conditions both sides played some very attractive football and the large crowd were treated to a lively contest. The Passage half back line of Ricky O’Herihly, Eamon Fitzgerald and James Kind were totally dominant throughout and they ensured that this Passage team were never going to be beaten on the day. Other players to play well were Goalkeeper Cian Mc Carthy who saved a penalty when the game was in the balance and Shane Howard who gave an exhibition in the second half. This victory was even more remarkable when you realise the players that were unavailable on the day Daniel Hanlon, Eric Kenefick, Adrian Murphy and Ricky Higgins. Congratulations to all the players and management on their great victory. Also thanks to the Bishopstown club for the use of their pitch.

Minor Football Championship Semi Final

Passage 4-9 Nemo Rangers 1-3

 

Our Minor Footballers defeated Nemo Rangers to qualify for the City Championship Final last Sunday morning in Ballinlough. This win gives the lads a great chance of securing an historic double after winning the Hurling Championship earlier in the year. The first half was very close with Passage in front by only 4 points at the interval despite playing with the strong breeze. In the second half Passage closed up shop and inspired by the outstanding Gavin O’Flaherty at centre back didn’t leave Nemo score for the entire half. All the way down the middle Passage were excellent, Full Forward Daniel O’Leary moved up a gear and ended up with an impressive scoring tally of 2-3. David O’Connell continued his great season at centre forward with a fine score of 1-2. O’Flaherty was the man of the match at centre back and behind him at the edge of the square Ciaran Dunne was as dependable as ever. The Final is next Sunday morning in Ballinlough at 11am against Delaney’s so please come along and support the lads.

Passage 3-13 Mayfield 1-7

 

In their first football game in over 2 months Passage took a while to get going against a very good Mayfield side. Passage was a point down at the interval but took off after the break scoring a goal straight after the restart. The cobwebs were blown away as Passage started to play some terrific attacking football. Mayfield had no answer to the Passage lad’s awesome second half display. Players to play well were Alistor Matthews who was the man of the match, James Kind, Shane Howard, Michael Mullane who scored two great goals and Keith Deasy.

U-14 LADIES FOOTBALLERS DEFEAT NEMO TO QUALIFY FOR LEAGUE FINAL

 

U14B League Semi-Final Nemo Vs Passage.

 

Passage travelled to Nemo on Tues. August 30th for the U14B

League semi-final. Nemo started well and went three points up before Passage

registered their first score with a point from Karen Twomey. Soon afterwards

Natasha O'Sullivan scored an excellent goal. At the break Nemo lead by 3 points

1goal 4 points to Passage 1 Goal 1 Point. Nemo dominated the early stages of the second half and scored some fine points. Passage responded with a point from Karen Hughes. Yvonne Cahill scored a goal for Nemo, which left Passage, trailing by 7 points. Surging runs forward from Sinead O'Reilly finally paid dividends and with just minutes remaining substitute Samantha Mackey scored an excellent goal. Inspired by this Passage pushed forward again and Karen Hughes worked hard to fire home another goal. Passage won possession from the kick out and after some fine passing play Laura McCarthy kicked over the equalising point, much to the delight of the Passage supporters. With time almost up this never say die team pushed forward again and Lisa O'Sullivan scored and excellent point to give Passage the lead for the first time in the game. Nemo won possession and had a chance to equalise, but was not to be as Passage defended bravely. That was to be the final attack of the game. A wonderful finish from the Passage girls amid scenes of great excitement. Congratulations to all the girls for an excellent performance especially Emma Lydon, Kate Boland,

Erin Twomey, Gemma Cooney, Sinead O'Reilly Laura McCarthy.

 

 

Camogie County Final

Passage 1-1 Killeagh 4-7

Passage put up a brave fight against the Feile Na Gael Champions Killeagh last weekend in Ballinlough. Passage who beat St.Catherines and Kildorrey to reach their first ever final made the better start with Karen Twomey scoring a great goal. Killeagh quickly regained their composure scoring 2 goals and they led by 6 points at the interval. Passage battled hard in the second half but found the going tough against an excellent Killeagh side. Passage weren’t helped either by some very strange decisions from the match official. Players to play well for Passage were Amy Costello, Claire O’Brien, Sinead O’Reilly, Karen Twomey and Emer Hyde who chose to stay at home and play for her beloved club while her family went to Lanzarote. Congratulations to the girls for reaching the final and giving your loyal supporters some great memories. Also thanks to Liam and Lilian for the great job they have done with this outstanding team.

Junior A Hurling Mac Curtain Cup

Passage 6-14 Glen Rovers 4-5

The A Hurlers had a great win against the Glen last Wednesday night in the Mac Curtain Cup up in the Glen Field. Passage inspired by Michael Harrington who broke at least 6 Hurley’s on the night showed tremendous passion and hunger straight from the throw in. Full Forward Seamus Forde was in great form scoring 5 goals and 3 points. Ozzie was the main man and gave a vintage display from centre back. Others to shine on the night were Kevin O’Brien, Paul Keane, Kevin O’Rourke and Billy Cotter.
