2004 AGM Report of Passage G.A.A. ClubAGM REPORT 2004CHAIRMAN'S ADDRESSKeith Maxwell said it was a milestone year with the opening of the new Clubhouse and it was a tribute to everyone involved that it was opened within the time limit and budget.Keith thanked all the volunteers who helped finish the Pavilion especially Eoghan O'Brien and Paul Maxwell.The offical opening will be next summer and Volunteers were needed to organise the big event.He paid tribute to all the team managers,fundraisers,outgoing committee,supporters,sponsors and players for all their effort and help during the year.AN RUNAI REPORTThe following is An Runai Brian Culloty's report for 2004ADULT SECTIONAlthough 2004 was not as successful as the previous year,there were still a number of high points during the season.The Junior A Football team were very unlucky to lose to Nemo Rangers in the Semi Final of the Championship and to Whites Cross in the Mc Sweeney Cup.The Junior B Footballers acquitted themselves well in the B League having been promoted last year.The Junior A Hurlers never reached the heights that they had achieved in the Championship in previous years .The Junior B Hurling Team were unlucky to lose to Lough Rovers in the Semi Final of the Championship.The U-21 Footballers lost the Championship that they had won last season by a point to Brian Dillons who went on to win the competition.The U-21 Hurlers lost in the Quarter Finals to a very strong Mayfield side.Both the Minor Footballers and Hurlers reached the Finals of the City Championship and both are currently waiting to play League Finals.JUVENILEThe Juvenile Section of the Club has come on in leaps and bounds throughout the year.They have invested a considerable amount of time and energy into each team. It has paid off handsomely with the U-14's Footballers and Hurlers plus the U-16 Footballers winning their Championships.The Juvenile Committee deserves a huge amount of credit for managing an ever growing underage group and thanks to everyone who helped out.The Committee is always looking for volunteers to help out with the various teams from U-8 right up to U-16.The Club held a very successful Hurling Street Leagues in October with over 150 boys and girls taking part thanks to everyone who helped out over the 4 weeks.The Camogie and Ladies Football Clubs have grown over the last 12 months and thanks to everyone who helped out.CLUB DEVELOPMENTThe clubhouse was successfully completed just before the Easter Weekend and thanks to everyone who helped out.There was an EGM held in July on the Bog field/tennis club proposal and the matter is still been discussed with the Council.Plans have been put in place to surface the Car Park of the club which is due to start within the next week.The club has applied for a development grant from Comhairle na Mumhan for ground developments carried out during the year.GROUND DEVELOPMENTA lot of work has been carried out on the grounds this year.Recently both goalmouths have been resodded and the grounds committee are currently working on completing a new stand on the bank opposite the clubhouse.Poles have been installed up at the top goals of the main pitch and once the ground hardens up,netting will be installed.Work on the lower section of the training pitch has started.Topsoil is required to complete the project which will hopefully be completed soon.Thanks to Matt Ahern and Ned Harrington for all the hard work they have done over the year.PLAYING FACILITIESThanks to the Principle and the Board of Management of St.Peters Community School for the use of the school field for training and matches.Thanks to all the team managers for their co-operation in managing the limited playing areas that are available at present.Finally the playing facilities were kept in a brillant condition throughout the year and the grounds committee deserves huge praise for this.SOCIALThe club held a number of excellent social events during the year with the highlight been the Family Day.The Club Footballers travelled to Scotland in March to participate in a Gaelic Football Tournament organised by the Abertay University in Dundee.This turned out to be a great weekend for everyone involved.The Social Committee has done a lot of work during the year and were instrumental in getting the clubhouse kitchen up and running.Thanks to Murphy English Solicitors for all their assistance in helping the club obtain a Bar License.SPONSORSHIPA special thanks to all those who kindly sponsored the club in some way during the past year.Your generosity is most appreciated by the club.OTHER BUSINESSThere then was a debate on how to improve the Hurling Affairs in the club.Junior A Hurling Manager Bernie Meade spoke about the year and the need for more committment from the players.At the start of the year he was expecting to win the Championship but with 3 players going to Australia and a terrible run of injuries the season ended up a big disappointment.The demands on the players these days are huge and something has to be done about all the injuries players are getting.The players are there in Passage to be successful but they have to be committed,put in a supreme effort and put differences aside to take the next step.Ballygarvan winning the Junior County was taken as an example on what has to be done.Bernie thanked Kieran Keane,Finbarr Cronin and Willie Callaghan for all their help during the year and also the Junior B players who came on to the panel during the closing stages of the League. Tom Harrington spoke on a number of issues relating to hurling in the club and asked the question how do we improve.The Junior B Hurlers were praised for their great season and total committment. Junior Football Manager Ciaran O'Reilly spoke about how the Junior Football Teams got on during the year.There was a big improvement in performances but there was still a big step to be taken to be successful.Like Bernie he felt that the players were training too much and a plan on how to reduce training especially for the dual players would have to be worked out.He thanked his backroom team for helping out during the season.He was happy with the interaction between the A AND B panels and feels with a bit more committment from the players we are heading in the right direction.Kevin O'Brien spoke about the trip to Dundee and how it built up a great team spirit. Willie Ashman was thanked for the wonderful job he done in taking the Minor Footballers and Hurlers to 2 City Championship Finals.Joe Madden said that the City Division Secretary praised the Passage Minor Hurling Team in his report to the City Division Convention. Juvenile Chairman Micky O'Mahony spoke on the wonderful year the juvenile club had with the highlight been the winning of 3 City Championships .He thanked all the managers and people who helped the juvenile club out during the year.There will be an extra 2 teams next year and he asked people to come along and help out in the coaching side of things. Thomas Lester thanked everyone involved in the Hurling Street Leagues and that the Football will be held in March. Ground Development Chairman Ned Harrington thanked Matt Ahern for all his hard work over the last few years and was disappointed that due to work committments he wouldn't be going forward next year on the grounds committee.Edward Ahern said that Ned Harrington was the most committed person in the club this year and that he put in fierce hours working up in the pitch. John Hanlon thanked Kieran Keane for getting the use of the school pitch and St.Peters for providing the use of it. PRO John O Connor said that the Website is back up and working at a new address passagewestgaa.com and that Glor an Phasiste will be relaunched within the next forthnight.He thanked everyone who helped him during the year. Noreen O'Byrne gave her Treasurer's report.There was a discussion on club costs with the cost of hurleys coming under scrunity.It was decided by the members to increase players membership to 70 euro,students 25 euro,non playing 10 euro and clubhouse membership 10 euro. Noreen was thanked for the excellent job she has done over the year.
A new Club Constitution was ratified by the members.
A new proposal on how to run the club was then introduced with the main
objective been to increase the number of volunteers who help out.The
running
of the club would be divided up into 13 new sections.
